Tom Schofield - Soil

'Redefining' Paramaters @ The London Garage, UK

After Soil's amazing success with their debut album "Scars", we all look forward to their new album offering "Redefine" due out in the UK in a few weeks (March 22nd). Tom Schofield and Soil are back in the U.K. to perform a brief low key club tour and give us a taster of what "Redefine" has in store for hardcore and new fans. I went along with better half to catch them at their last stop - 'The Garage', London.

Its Friday night and I was meant to be meeting Tom before the show to catch up as I haven't seen him since last years 'Download 2003' and 'Metal Hammer' awards. So we get to the venue and go round to their tour bus and he's asleep...so.... after an hour we decide to go into the Garage and decide to catch Tom and the band after the show - a heavy night out before, I guess!

Inside its packed, this low capacity venue (500+) is thriving, it also feels like a sauna...well, thats a good excuse for a beer (to cool down obviously). You can literally feel the anticipation in the air tonight, everyone waits anxiously to see the return of their "METAL HEROES" and when they hit the stage you instantly know why they are given that title - whoa!!!

It's nice to see that Tom's refreshed and kicks in for the opener and newbie "Pride", its a blinding 3 minute rock song that sets off a pit almost the same size as the floor and with no security between the crowd and Soil - it sets the standard for what we're about to expect. The 'crowd surfers' fly constantly throughout the show and it's chaos at some points kids hit the stage every second but this is how gigs SHOULD be.

…………redefined!!!

Now some "old" classic's emerge such as "Breaking me down" "Need To Feel" and the ever dark "Unreal" get the whole Garage singing in unison and new "soon to be classic" songs such as "Obsession" "Cross my heart" and "Redefine" make everyone in here wish the album was out right now, if you thought "Scars" was as good as it gets, think again... that was only the beginning!

Tom Schofield - Soil

Tom's performance is powered and faultless, his mix off AAX's and HH's slice through the mix and compliments Soil's groove so well. Whether it be the punk blast of "Only One" or set closer "Halo" he drives the backbone of this band with such force and purpose....this band really wouldn't be the same band without him.

So as the night draws to close after the encore of "Black 7" everyone leaves the 'London Garage' knowing they've just seen probably Soil's best UK show to date, fingers crossed they will be back shortly but you just know that they'll be playing in a venue 4 times bigger than this......here's seeing them on the next level - I predict Brixton Academy!!!

Soil return to the Stateside to pick up their U.S. tour dates - catch them when they're next around….trust me, you won't be disappointed.
