Steve Hewitt is one of those drummers
who play with power and sensitivity and rhythmically injects
into the performance exactly what the song needs. He is the
resident member of Placebo, one of the UK's thought provoking
bands and his rhythmic emotional approach, treatment and execution
of the bands songwriting justifies him as a valid member of
Placebo - a true musician.
I caught him in pre-rehearsal with the band in North London
ploughing through a huge reportoire of songs and nailing down
their stage set. They are starting a UK tour to promote their
current single "Bitter End" and their newly released album "Sleeping
With Ghosts". The tour will expand to be an extensive World
tour bringing them to the US, Japan and Australia later in the
year. Steve loves his Sabian HH and HHX cymbals
and I can see why when the band kick in to rehearsal mode. The
whole band took time out to sign cymbals for promotional use.
I have seen this band several times and in my view, if you
haven't seen this band, treat yourself and catch them on
this tour. For those who have seen them, they are presently
at their best!
